Dade County is a county located in the northwestern corner of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 16,251. The county seat is Trenton.
History[edit | edit source]
Dade County was established on December 25, 1837, by an act of the Georgia General Assembly. It was named after Major Francis L. Dade, who was killed in the Second Seminole War.
The county is notable for its unique history of secession. In 1860, Dade County symbolically seceded from the state of Georgia and the United States, rejoining the Union in 1945. This act was largely symbolic and not recognized by the state or federal government.

Dade County is part of the Chattanooga, TN-GA Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located in the northwestern corner of Georgia, bordered by Alabama to the west and Tennessee to the north. The county is characterized by its mountainous terrain, being part of the Appalachian Mountains.
