Dark Ages: Werewolf is a tabletop role-playing game set in the World of Darkness universe, published by White Wolf Publishing. It is part of the Dark Ages (role-playing game) series and focuses on the lives and struggles of werewolves during the medieval period.

Setting[edit | edit source]

The game is set in the Dark Ages, a time of great turmoil and change in Europe. Players take on the roles of Garou, the werewolves of the World of Darkness, who are fighting to protect the world from the corrupting influence of the Wyrm. The setting combines elements of historical fiction with fantasy, incorporating real historical events and figures alongside mythical creatures and supernatural phenomena.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

In Dark Ages: Werewolf, players create characters who are members of various Garou tribes. Each tribe has its own unique culture, abilities, and goals. The game uses the Storyteller System, a ruleset that emphasizes narrative and character development over complex mechanics. Players roll a pool of ten-sided dice to determine the outcomes of their actions, with the number of successes determining the degree of success or failure.

Tribes[edit | edit source]

The game features several Garou tribes, each with its own distinct identity and role in the world. Some of the prominent tribes include:

  • Black Furies: A tribe of female warriors dedicated to protecting women and nature.
  • Bone Gnawers: Urban scavengers who live among the human poor.
  • Children of Gaia: Pacifists who seek to bring peace and unity to the Garou Nation.
  • Fianna: Bards and warriors with a strong connection to Celtic traditions.
  • Get of Fenris: Fierce warriors who value strength and honor above all else.
  • Shadow Lords: Manipulative and cunning, they seek to control the Garou Nation.
  • Silver Fangs: The traditional leaders of the Garou, claiming descent from ancient kings.

Themes[edit | edit source]

Dark Ages: Werewolf explores themes of duty, honor, and the struggle between civilization and nature. The Garou are caught between their human and wolf natures, and must navigate the complexities of medieval society while fulfilling their sacred duty to protect the world from the Wyrm. The game also delves into the conflicts between different Garou tribes, as well as the tension between the Garou and other supernatural beings such as vampires and mages.

Supplements[edit | edit source]

Several supplements have been released for Dark Ages: Werewolf, expanding on the core rules and setting. These include:

  • Dark Ages: Werewolf Companion: Provides additional rules, character options, and setting information.
  • Dark Ages: Fae: Explores the world of the fae and their interactions with the Garou.
  • Dark Ages: Mage: Focuses on the mages of the medieval period and their struggles for power and knowledge.
