Dietitian is a healthcare professional who is an expert in dietetics; that is, human nutrition and the regulation of diet. Education and Training[edit | edit source]

A dietitian has a bachelor's degree with a major in dietetics, foods, and nutrition, or a related area. Graduate degrees are also available. Programs include courses in nutrition, psychology, chemistry, and biology.

Work[edit | edit source]

Dietitians work in many settings, including health care, business and industry, community/public health, education, research, government agencies, and private practice. As integral members of medical and administrative teams, they work in hospitals, nursing homes, and schools.

Regulation[edit | edit source]

In many countries, a person claiming to be a dietitian has to be registered or licensed with the national regulatory body or be a member of the professional body.
