Domiodol

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Domiodol is a chemical compound with the formula C_12H_16O_2. It is a member of the class of compounds known as terpenoids, which are derived from five-carbon isoprene units assembled into a variety of structures. Domiodol is specifically a sesquiterpenoid, a subclass of terpenoids that consists of three isoprene units.

Chemical Structure and Properties[edit | edit source]

Domiodol is a sesquiterpenoid with a molecular weight of 192.25 g/mol. It is composed of 12 carbon atoms, 16 hydrogen atoms, and 2 oxygen atoms. The compound is characterized by its unique chemical structure, which includes a cyclohexane ring, a cyclopentane ring, and an isopropyl group.

Biosynthesis[edit | edit source]

The biosynthesis of domiodol involves the cyclization of farnesyl pyrophosphate (FPP), a common precursor in the biosynthesis of sesquiterpenoids. The cyclization process is catalyzed by a class of enzymes known as terpene synthases.

Biological Activity[edit | edit source]

While the biological activity of domiodol is not fully understood, sesquiterpenoids as a class are known to have a wide range of biological activities. These include anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, and anticancer properties.
