The Dormition Church (Ukrainian: Церква Успіння Пресвятої Богородиці) is a historic Eastern Orthodox Church located in the village of Dubiny, in the Podlaskie Voivodeship of Poland. The church is dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God, a significant feast in the Eastern Orthodox Church commemorating the "falling asleep" or death of the Virgin Mary.
History[edit | edit source]
The Dormition Church was constructed in 1872, during a period when the region was part of the Russian Empire. The church has served as a central place of worship for the local Eastern Orthodox community for over a century. It is an excellent example of wooden ecclesiastical architecture, which is characteristic of the region.
Architecture[edit | edit source]
The church is built in the traditional wooden architectural style that is prevalent in the Podlaskie Voivodeship. The structure features a rectangular nave, a polygonal apse, and a bell tower. The interior of the church is adorned with religious icons and frescoes, which are typical of Eastern Orthodox churches.
Cultural Significance[edit | edit source]
The Dormition Church is not only a place of worship but also a significant cultural and historical landmark. It has been designated as a Historic Monument by the Polish government, recognizing its importance in the cultural heritage of the region. The church is a testament to the rich religious and cultural history of the Eastern Orthodox community in Poland.
