Dos Lunas Tequila[edit | edit source]

Dos Lunas Tequila is a premium tequila brand known for its exceptional quality and craftsmanship. Produced in Mexico, Dos Lunas Tequila has gained recognition for its smooth taste and unique flavor profiles. In this article, we will explore the history, production process, and different varieties of Dos Lunas Tequila.

History[edit | edit source]

Dos Lunas Tequila was founded in 2006 by Richard C. Poe II, a tequila enthusiast with a passion for creating the finest tequila. Inspired by the traditional methods of tequila production, Poe set out to create a brand that would embody the rich heritage and artistry of Mexican tequila-making.

Production Process[edit | edit source]

Dos Lunas Tequila is made from 100% blue agave, which is grown in the Jalisco region of Mexico. The agave plants are carefully selected and harvested by hand to ensure the highest quality. Once harvested, the agave hearts, also known as piñas, are cooked in traditional brick ovens to release their natural sugars.

After cooking, the piñas are crushed to extract the juice, which is then fermented using a proprietary yeast strain. The fermentation process takes place in stainless steel tanks and can last up to several days. This step is crucial in developing the unique flavors and aromas of Dos Lunas Tequila.

Once fermentation is complete, the liquid is distilled twice in copper pot stills. This traditional distillation method allows for the removal of impurities and the concentration of flavors. The resulting tequila is then aged in American white oak barrels, which impart additional complexity and smoothness to the final product.

Varieties[edit | edit source]

Dos Lunas Tequila offers a range of varieties to cater to different preferences. These include:

1. Dos Lunas Silver: This unaged tequila is known for its crisp and clean taste, with hints of citrus and agave sweetness.

2. Dos Lunas Reposado: Aged for a minimum of six months, this tequila has a smooth and mellow character, with notes of vanilla and caramel.

3. Dos Lunas Añejo: Aged for a minimum of 18 months, this tequila is rich and full-bodied, with flavors of oak, chocolate, and dried fruit.

4. Dos Lunas Grand Reserve: This limited edition tequila is aged for a minimum of five years, resulting in a complex and luxurious spirit with layers of flavors.
