Druther's is a fast food restaurant chain that originated in the United States. It was founded in 1956 under the name "Burger Queen" and later rebranded to Druther's in 1981. The chain is known for its hamburgers, fried chicken, and other fast food items.

History[edit | edit source]

Druther's was originally established as "Burger Queen" in 1956. The chain was founded by Harold Kite and Travis Harkins in Winter Haven, Florida. The name "Burger Queen" was chosen to complement the popular Burger King chain, although the two companies were not related.

In 1981, the company decided to rebrand itself as Druther's. The new name was derived from the phrase "I'd druther have a burger," which was a colloquial way of saying "I'd rather have a burger." The rebranding was part of an effort to differentiate the chain from its competitors and to expand its menu offerings beyond just burgers.

Menu[edit | edit source]

Druther's menu includes a variety of fast food items such as:

The chain also offers a selection of breakfast items, including biscuits and gravy, pancakes, and breakfast sandwiches.

Mascot[edit | edit source]

The original mascot for Burger Queen was a character named "Queenie Bee," a bee dressed as a queen. After the rebranding to Druther's, the mascot was changed to "Andy Dandytale," a whimsical character who was featured in the chain's advertising campaigns.

Expansion and Decline[edit | edit source]

During the 1970s and 1980s, Druther's expanded rapidly, opening numerous locations across the United States. However, by the late 1980s, the chain began to face stiff competition from larger fast food chains such as McDonald's and Wendy's. This led to a decline in the number of Druther's locations.

In 1990, Druther's was acquired by Dairy Queen, and many of its locations were converted into Dairy Queen restaurants. As a result, the Druther's brand became less prominent, and only a few locations remain operational today.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Despite its decline, Druther's is remembered fondly by many who grew up with the chain. Its unique branding and menu offerings left a lasting impression on its customers.
