Earth Fare
Earth Fare is an American health and wellness supermarket chain. Founded in 1975 in Asheville, North Carolina, Earth Fare specializes in offering organic and natural foods, free from artificial additives, high-fructose corn syrup, and trans fats. The company operates stores primarily in the southeastern and midwestern United States.
History[edit | edit source]
Earth Fare was established in 1975 by Roger Derrough in Asheville, North Carolina. The store initially focused on providing natural and organic foods to the local community. Over the years, Earth Fare expanded its product offerings to include a wide range of groceries, including fresh produce, meats, dairy products, and prepared foods, all adhering to strict quality standards. In 2012, Earth Fare was acquired by Oak Hill Capital Partners, a private equity firm. This acquisition facilitated further expansion, and by 2020, Earth Fare had grown to operate over 50 stores across the United States. However, in February 2020, Earth Fare announced that it would be closing all of its stores and filing for bankruptcy. The company cited financial difficulties and an inability to compete with larger grocery chains. Shortly after the announcement, several former executives and local investors purchased some of the closed stores and began reopening them under the Earth Fare brand.
