East Midlands Ambulance Service
East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) is the emergency medical services provider for the East Midlands region of the United Kingdom. It provides emergency, urgent care and patient transport services for the counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, and Nottinghamshire.
History[edit | edit source]
The East Midlands Ambulance Service was established in 1999, following the merger of several smaller ambulance services in the region. The aim was to provide a more efficient and effective service to the people of the East Midlands.
Services[edit | edit source]
EMAS provides a range of services, including:
- Emergency response: EMAS responds to 999 calls and provides immediate medical assistance to patients in life-threatening situations.
- Urgent care: For patients who need immediate care but are not in a life-threatening situation, EMAS provides urgent care services.
- Patient transport services: EMAS also provides non-emergency transport for patients who need to travel to and from healthcare facilities for treatment.
Operations[edit | edit source]
EMAS operates from over 70 locations across the East Midlands, including ambulance stations, standby points, and hospitals. It employs over 3,000 staff, including paramedics, emergency medical technicians, and emergency care assistants.
Performance[edit | edit source]
EMAS's performance is measured against national standards set by the National Health Service (NHS). These include response times to emergency calls and patient satisfaction levels.
