Edmund Soon-Weng Yong (born December 17, 1981) is a British science journalist and author, known for his work in communicating complex scientific ideas to the public. He is a staff writer for The Atlantic and has written extensively on topics such as microbiology, immunology, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ed Yong was born in Malaysia and moved to the United Kingdom at a young age. He attended Dulwich College in London and later studied zoology at University College London. He completed a MPhil in Biochemistry at the University of Cambridge.

Yong began his career in science communication by writing a blog called Not Exactly Rocket Science, which gained popularity for its engaging and accessible style.
