Eesti or Estonia is a country located in the northern part of Europe. It is bordered by Finland to the north, across the Gulf of Finland, and Latvia to the south. The eastern borders are shared with Russia. Estonia is a democratic parliamentary republic and is divided into fifteen counties. The capital and largest city is Tallinn.

Estonia's history dates back to the ice age. The region has been marked by centuries of Danish, Swedish, German, and Russian rule. It declared independence from Russia in 1918, only to be occupied by the Soviet Union in 1940 during World War II. Estonia regained its independence on August 20, 1991.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Estonia is a flat country covering 45,227 square kilometers. It is situated in the northern part of the temperate climate zone and in the transition zone between maritime and continental climate.

Economy[edit | edit source]

Estonia has a strong economy and, as a member of the European Union, it uses the Euro as its currency. The country's economic freedom score is 76.7, making it the 10th freest in the 2021 Index.

Culture[edit | edit source]

Estonian culture is heavily influenced by its location and history. The country's culture is a blend of Nordic, Germanic, Russian, and uniquely Estonian influences.
