Eielson AFB, AK
Eielson Air Force Base (AFB) is a United States Air Force base located approximately 26 miles southeast of Fairbanks, and just southeast of Moose Creek, Alaska. It was established in 1943 for the defense of Alaska during World War II. The base was named in honor of polar pilot Carl Ben Eielson.
City Description[edit | edit source]
- Eielson AFB is a small city within the Fairbanks North Star Borough. It is primarily a military base, with a population largely made up of military personnel, their families, and civilian employees. The city is surrounded by vast wilderness, offering residents opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Despite its remote location, Eielson AFB provides its residents with a variety of amenities, including shopping, dining, and recreational facilities.
