• El Dorado Springs was established in 1881 as a health resort. The city was named after the fabled city of El Dorado, meaning "the gilded one" in Spanish, in hopes that it would be a prosperous and successful city.

• El Dorado Springs is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 54 and Missouri Route 82. The city is approximately 100 miles south of Kansas City, Missouri and 375 miles west of St. Louis, Missouri.
