Environment, Health and Safety (often abbreviated as EHS) is a discipline and specialty that studies and implements practical aspects of environmental protection and safety at work. In simple terms, it is what organizations must do to ensure that their activities do not cause harm to anyone.

At a high level, Environment, health and safety management has two general objectives: prevention of incidents or accidents that might result from abnormal operating conditions on the one hand and reduction of adverse effects that result from normal operating conditions on the other hand.

Environmental Protection[edit | edit source]

Environmental protection involves the systematic approach to regulating human impact on the environment. This includes the natural environment, wildlife, and human habitats. The goal is to create sustainable practices that reduce harm and allow for the coexistence of humans and nature.

Health and Safety[edit | edit source]

Health and safety refers to the rules, regulations, procedures, and practices set up by organizations to ensure the safety and health of employees within the workplace. This includes risk assessments, fire safety, first aid, and the appropriate use of equipment.

EHS Management Systems[edit | edit source]

An EHS Management System is a set of processes and practices that enable an organization to reduce its environmental impacts and increase its operating efficiency. This includes the tracking and evaluation of past incidents to prevent future ones.

EHS Regulations and Compliance[edit | edit source]

EHS regulations are the rules and guidelines set by regulatory bodies that companies must follow to ensure the safety and health of their employees and the environment. Compliance with these regulations is crucial to avoid legal repercussions and maintain a positive company image.
