Erbumine

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Erbumine is a chemical compound that is often used in the pharmaceutical industry. It is a salt form of the active ingredient enalapril, which is an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACE inhibitor) used primarily for the treatment of hypertension and congestive heart failure.

Chemical Properties[edit | edit source]

Erbumine is the maleate salt of enalapril. The chemical formula for erbumine is C20H28N2O5.C4H4O4. It is a white to off-white crystalline powder that is soluble in water and ethanol.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

Erbumine works by inhibiting the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), which is responsible for the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II. Angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor that increases blood pressure by narrowing the blood vessels. By inhibiting this enzyme, erbumine helps to relax blood vessels, thereby lowering blood pressure and improving blood flow.
