Eric Michael Garcetti (born February 4, 1971) is an American politician who served as the 42nd Mayor of Los Angeles from 2013 to 2022. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Eric Garcetti was born in Los Angeles, California, to Gil Garcetti, a former Los Angeles County District Attorney, and Sukey Roth. He attended Harvard-Westlake School and later graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Urban Planning. He also studied as a Rhodes Scholar at The Queen's College, Oxford, and the London School of Economics.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Garcetti was first elected to the Los Angeles City Council in 2001, representing the 13th district. He served as President of the Los Angeles City Council from 2006 to 2012. In 2013, he was elected as the Mayor of Los Angeles, becoming the city's first elected Jewish mayor and its youngest in over a century.

During his tenure as mayor, Garcetti focused on issues such as transportation, housing, and sustainability. He championed the expansion of the city's public transit system and implemented policies to address the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles. Garcetti also played a significant role in the city's bid for the 2028 Summer Olympics.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Eric Garcetti is married to Amy Elaine Wakeland, and they have one daughter. He is an avid photographer and jazz pianist.
