Eva Klein

Eva Klein (born 1925) is a Hungarian-Swedish immunologist and cancer researcher, known for her pioneering work in the field of tumor immunology. She is married to fellow scientist and collaborator George Klein, with whom she has made significant contributions to the understanding of the immune response to tumors.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Eva Klein was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1925. She studied medicine at the University of Budapest, where she graduated in 1948. She then moved to Sweden, where she continued her studies at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, earning her PhD in 1955.

Klein began her career at the Karolinska Institute, where she worked alongside her husband, George Klein. Together, they made significant contributions to the field of tumor immunology, including the discovery of natural killer cells, a type of white blood cell that plays a key role in the body's immune response to tumors.

In addition to her research, Klein has also been a prominent advocate for women in science. She has spoken out about the challenges faced by women in the field and has worked to promote gender equality in scientific research.

Over the course of her career, Klein has received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to science. These include the Robert Koch Prize for her work in tumor immunology, and the King Faisal International Prize for Medicine, which she shared with her husband.
