Extrusion

(Redirected from Extruding)

Extrusion is a process used in manufacturing, in which a material is pushed or drawn through a die of the desired cross-section. In the medical field, extrusion can refer to the movement of a tooth or other body part from its normal position.

Overview[edit | edit source]

Extrusion in the medical context can occur in various situations. For example, a tooth may become extruded due to injury or disease, causing it to protrude from the gum line. Similarly, a herniated disc in the spine may extrude, causing pain and other symptoms.

Causes[edit | edit source]

Extrusion can be caused by a variety of factors, including:

  • Trauma: Physical injury can cause a tooth or other body part to become extruded.
  • Disease: Certain diseases can cause extrusion. For example, periodontal disease can lead to tooth extrusion.
  • Age: As people age, their risk of experiencing extrusion increases due to the natural wear and tear on the body.

Treatment[edit | edit source]

Treatment for extrusion depends on the cause and the body part affected. For example, an extruded tooth may be treated with orthodontic procedures, while a herniated disc may require surgery.
