Faisal Shuaib
Faisal Shuaib is a renowned public health professional and the Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) in Nigeria. He is recognized for his significant contributions to the eradication of polio in Nigeria and his leadership in the country's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Faisal Shuaib was born and raised in Nigeria. He pursued his undergraduate studies in medicine at the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria. After his graduation, he furthered his education in the field of public health, earning a Master's degree in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA, and a Doctorate in Public Health (DrPH) from the University of Kentucky, USA.

Shuaib began his career in public health in Nigeria, where he worked on various health initiatives. His work gained international recognition, leading to his appointment as the Incident Manager of the Nigeria Polio Eradication Emergency Operation Center in 2012. In this role, he led a team of experts to implement strategies that successfully eradicated polio in Nigeria.
In 2016, Shuaib was appointed as the Executive Director of the NPHCDA. Under his leadership, the agency has made significant strides in improving primary health care services in Nigeria. He has also played a pivotal role in Nigeria's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, overseeing the country's vaccination campaign.

Shuaib's contributions to public health, particularly in the eradication of polio, have been widely recognized. His leadership in the polio eradication initiative led to Nigeria being declared polio-free by the World Health Organization in 2020. He has also been instrumental in strengthening Nigeria's health system, particularly in the area of primary health care.
