Federal Way

Federal Way is a city located in King County, Washington, United States. It is a coastal city situated between Seattle and Tacoma. Its western boundary is the Puget Sound. It is the tenth largest city in Washington State with a diverse population.

Federal Way was originally a logging settlement, with the first recorded claim in 1871. The city was incorporated on February 28, 1990. The name "Federal Way" originated from Federal Highway U.S. 99 (now State Route 99 or Pacific Highway South), which ran from Everett and Seattle to Tacoma.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Federal Way is located in the southwest corner of King County, Washington. The city is bordered by Des Moines on the north, Kent on the east, Milton, Fife and Tacoma on the south, and the Puget Sound on the west.

Economy[edit | edit source]

Federal Way's economy is diverse, with a mix of retail, light manufacturing, and office-based businesses. The city is home to the headquarters of World Vision International, a Christian humanitarian aid organization. Other notable businesses include Weyerhaeuser, the largest private owner of softwood timberland in the world, and Wild Waves Theme Park, the largest amusement park in the region.

Federal Way is served by the Federal Way Public Schools district, which operates four high schools, seven middle schools, and twenty-three elementary schools. The city also has several private schools, including Christian Faith School, a preschool through 12th grade private school.

Culture[edit | edit source]

Federal Way is home to the Federal Way Performing Arts and Event Center, a venue for concerts, theater performances, and other events. The city also hosts the annual Federal Way Festival, a celebration of the city's history and culture.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

Federal Way is served by King County Metro and Sound Transit, which provide bus service and light rail service to the city. The city is also located near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, providing easy access to air travel.
