Female genitalia

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellnesspedia

Female genitalia refers to the sex organs of a female individual that are part of the reproductive system. These organs are involved in sexual reproduction, menstruation, and childbirth. The female genitalia are divided into two main parts: the internal genitalia and the external genitalia.

External Genitalia[edit | edit source]

The external female genitalia, also known as the vulva, includes the mons pubis, labia majora, labia minora, clitoris, vestibular glands, urethral opening, and the vaginal opening.

Mons Pubis[edit | edit source]

The mons pubis is a rounded mound of fatty tissue that covers the pubic bone. It is prominent in adult females and is covered with pubic hair following puberty.

Labia Majora[edit | edit source]

The labia majora are two large folds of skin that extend from the mons pubis to the perineum. They protect the other external genital organs.

Labia Minora[edit | edit source]

The labia minora are two small folds of skin located within the labia majora. They protect the openings of the vagina and the urethra.

Clitoris[edit | edit source]

The clitoris is a small, sensitive organ located at the top of the vulva. It is the primary source of female sexual pleasure.

Vestibular Glands[edit | edit source]

The vestibular glands secrete fluid that lubricates the vagina.

Urethral Opening[edit | edit source]

The urethral opening is the outlet for urine.

Vaginal Opening[edit | edit source]

The vaginal opening is the entrance to the vagina and the birth canal.

Internal Genitalia[edit | edit source]

The internal female genitalia includes the vagina, uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries.

Vagina[edit | edit source]

The vagina is a muscular canal that extends from the vulva to the cervix, the lower part of the uterus.

Uterus[edit | edit source]

The uterus is a pear-shaped organ located in the lower abdomen. It is where a fetus grows during pregnancy.

Fallopian Tubes[edit | edit source]

The fallopian tubes are two tubes that transport eggs from the ovaries to the uterus.

Ovaries[edit | edit source]

The ovaries are two small, oval-shaped organs that produce eggs and hormones.
