Florence County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 4,558, making it the second least populous county in Wisconsin. Its county seat is Florence.

Florence County was created in 1882 from portions of Marinette and Oconto counties. It was named after the Florence Mining Company, which was a prominent mining company in the area during the late 19th century.
Geography[edit | edit source]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 498 square miles (1,290 km²), of which 488 square miles (1,260 km²) is land and 10 square miles (26 km²) (2.0%) is water. The county is part of the Nicolet National Forest.

Demographics[edit | edit source]
As of the 2020 census, there were 4,558 people, 2,000 households, and 1,200 families residing in the county. The population density was 9.3 people per square mile (3.6/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 96.5% White, 0.3% Black or African American, 1.0% Native American, 0.2% Asian, and 2.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.

Florence County is served by the School District of Florence County, which operates Florence High School.
Transportation[edit | edit source]
The county is served by several major highways, including U.S. Highway 2 and U.S. Highway 141. The Florence County Airport provides general aviation services.
