Florida's congressional districts

Florida's congressional districts are the geographic areas in the state of Florida from which members are elected to the United States House of Representatives. The number of districts in Florida has changed over time due to population growth and reapportionment following the United States Census. As of the most recent census, Florida has 28 congressional districts.

History

Florida was admitted to the Union on March 3, 1845. Initially, Florida had only one at-large congressional district. As the population grew, the number of districts increased. The first significant change occurred after the Census of 1900, which resulted in the creation of two districts. Subsequent censuses have led to further increases in the number of districts.

Current Districts

As of the latest redistricting following the 2020 Census, Florida has 28 congressional districts. Each district is represented by a member of the United States House of Representatives. The districts are designed to have roughly equal populations to ensure fair representation.

District 1

Florida's 1st congressional district is located in the western part of the Florida Panhandle. It includes the cities of Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach.

District 2

Florida's 2nd congressional district covers a large portion of the Florida Panhandle, including the state capital, Tallahassee.

District 3

Florida's 3rd congressional district is located in the northern part of the state and includes the city of Gainesville.

District 4

Florida's 4th congressional district encompasses parts of Jacksonville and its surrounding areas.

District 5

Florida's 5th congressional district stretches from Jacksonville to Tallahassee.

District 6

Florida's 6th congressional district includes parts of Daytona Beach and St. Augustine.

District 7

Florida's 7th congressional district covers parts of Orlando and its northern suburbs.

District 8

Florida's 8th congressional district includes parts of the Space Coast and the city of Melbourne.

District 9

Florida's 9th congressional district is located in central Florida and includes parts of Orlando.

District 10

Florida's 10th congressional district covers parts of Orlando and its western suburbs.

District 11

Florida's 11th congressional district includes parts of The Villages and Ocala.

District 12

Florida's 12th congressional district is located in the western part of the state and includes parts of Pasco County.

District 13

Florida's 13th congressional district covers parts of Pinellas County, including the city of St. Petersburg.

District 14

Florida's 14th congressional district includes parts of Tampa and its surrounding areas.

District 15

Florida's 15th congressional district is located in central Florida and includes parts of Lakeland.

District 16

Florida's 16th congressional district covers parts of Sarasota and Bradenton.

District 17

Florida's 17th congressional district includes parts of Charlotte County and Highlands County.

District 18

Florida's 18th congressional district is located in the southeastern part of the state and includes parts of Palm Beach County.

District 19

Florida's 19th congressional district covers parts of Fort Myers and Naples.

District 20

Florida's 20th congressional district includes parts of Broward County and Palm Beach County.

District 21

Florida's 21st congressional district is located in the southeastern part of the state and includes parts of Palm Beach County.

District 22

Florida's 22nd congressional district covers parts of Broward County and Palm Beach County.

District 23

Florida's 23rd congressional district includes parts of Broward County and Miami-Dade County.

District 24

Florida's 24th congressional district is located in the southeastern part of the state and includes parts of Miami.

District 25

Florida's 25th congressional district covers parts of Miami-Dade County and Collier County.

District 26

Florida's 26th congressional district includes parts of Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys.

District 27

Florida's 27th congressional district is located in the southeastern part of the state and includes parts of Miami.

District 28

Florida's 28th congressional district covers parts of Miami-Dade County and the Everglades.

Redistricting

Redistricting in Florida is conducted by the Florida Legislature. The process is often contentious and has led to numerous legal challenges. The most recent redistricting occurred in 2022, following the 2020 Census.
