Florida State University (FSU) is a public university located in Tallahassee, Florida. It is a senior member of the State University System of Florida. Founded in 1851, it is situated on the oldest continuous site of higher education in the state of Florida. FSU is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity".

Florida State University was established in 1851 as the West Florida Seminary, a state-funded institution. In 1901, it became Florida State College, and in 1947, it was reorganized as Florida State University. The university has grown significantly over the years, expanding its academic programs and research initiatives.
Campus[edit | edit source]
The main campus of Florida State University is located in Tallahassee, the capital city of Florida. The campus spans 1,428 acres and includes over 1,600 acres of additional property. The university's facilities include the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, and the Florida State University College of Medicine.

FSU offers over 360 programs of study, including undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees. The university is organized into 16 separate colleges, including the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business, the College of Education, and the College of Law. FSU's athletic teams are known as the Florida State Seminoles. The university is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and competes in NCAA Division I. The Seminoles have a rich tradition in sports, particularly in football, baseball, basketball, and track and field.
