Fluted pumpkin

Fluted Pumpkin (Telfairia occidentalis) is a tropical vine grown in West Africa as a leaf vegetable and for its edible seeds. It is a member of the family Cucurbitaceae and is indigenous to southern Nigeria. The fluted pumpkin has a unique growth pattern (a creeping vine) and is known for its fluted gourds.

The fluted pumpkin plant is a dioecious perennial, which means it produces both male and female flowers on separate plants. The plant is a vine which can extend up to 30 feet long. The leaves are heart-shaped and the fruit is large and fluted. The seeds are high in protein and fat, and can be eaten raw or cooked.
