Food Network

Food Network is an American basic cable channel owned by Television Food Network, G.P., a joint venture and general partnership between Discovery, Inc. (which holds a 69% ownership stake of the network) and Nexstar Media Group (which owns the remaining 31%). Despite this ownership structure, the channel is managed and operated as a division of Discovery Networks U.S. The channel airs both special and regular episodic programs about food and cooking.

In October 1993, the Food Network was founded by Reese Schonfeld and managed by the Providence Journal Company. The initial lineup offered shows in the areas of cuisine instruction, world cuisine, and other food-related programming. The network was initially launched on November 23, 1993, with two initial shows featuring David Rosengarten, Donna Hanover, and Robin Leach.

Programming[edit | edit source]

The programming of the Food Network primarily includes "in-the-kitchen" daytime programming, and a lineup of primetime "reality" shows. The network's daytime lineup includes shows such as Chopped, Iron Chef America, and Barefoot Contessa. The primetime lineup includes shows like Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Beat Bobby Flay, and Guy's Grocery Games.

Food Network programming is also broadcast in Canada, which broadcasts original programming and content from the flagship U.S. network. It is also available in Australia, New Zealand, and other countries.
