The Fool's Gold Loaf is a sandwich that gained popularity in the late 1970s. It is made with a hollowed-out loaf of bread filled with a combination of peanut butter, grape jelly, and bacon. Despite its indulgent ingredients, the Fool's Gold Loaf has become a legendary food item, known for its association with the famous American singer, Elvis Presley.

History[edit | edit source]

The Fool's Gold Loaf was created by the Colorado Mine Company, a restaurant located in Denver, Colorado. According to the restaurant's owner, Buck Scott, the sandwich was first made as a special request for Elvis Presley and his entourage, who visited the restaurant in 1976. Presley loved the sandwich so much that he flew his private jet to Denver just to enjoy it.

Ingredients[edit | edit source]

The Fool's Gold Loaf consists of a single loaf of Italian bread, which is hollowed out and filled with one jar of creamy peanut butter, one jar of grape jelly, and a pound of crispy bacon. The entire loaf is then baked until the bread is crispy and the fillings are melted and gooey.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Elvis Presley's love for the Fool's Gold Loaf brought it into the public eye, and it quickly became a popular item on the menu at the Colorado Mine Company. However, due to its extravagant ingredients and high calorie content, the sandwich has also been criticized for promoting unhealthy eating habits.

Cultural References[edit | edit source]

The Fool's Gold Loaf has been referenced in various forms of media. It was mentioned in the 1993 film "True Romance," where the character played by Christian Slater orders the sandwich. Additionally, it has been featured in several television shows, including "Man v. Food" and "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives."
