Fraction is a mathematical term that represents the division of one quantity by another. It is a way of expressing a quantity that is a ratio of two numbers. For example, the fraction 3/4 represents the ratio of 3 to 4.

A fraction (mathematical term) is a number that represents a part of a whole. It consists of a numerator and a denominator. The numerator represents the number of equal parts of a whole, while the denominator is the total number of parts that make up said whole.

Types of Fractions[edit | edit source]

There are three types of fractions: proper fractions, improper fractions, and mixed numbers.

Proper Fractions[edit | edit source]

A proper fraction is a fraction where the numerator is less than the denominator.

Improper Fractions[edit | edit source]

An improper fraction is a fraction where the numerator is greater than or equal to the denominator.

Mixed Numbers[edit | edit source]

A mixed number is a whole number combined with a proper fraction.

Uses of Fractions[edit | edit source]

Fractions are used in many areas of life, including cooking, construction, and science. They are also a fundamental concept in algebra and other branches of mathematics.
