Eggo Waffles[edit | edit source]

In the early 1950s, Frank Dorsa, along with his brothers Anthony and Sam, founded a small food company in San Jose, California. The company initially focused on producing mayonnaise and other condiments. However, Frank Dorsa's most significant contribution came in 1953 when he invented a machine to produce frozen waffles. This invention led to the creation of the Eggo brand.

The frozen waffles were initially called "Froffles" (a combination of "frozen" and "waffles"), but the name was later changed to "Eggo" due to the egg flavor of the waffles. The Eggo brand quickly gained popularity, and by the 1970s, it had become a staple in American households.

Acquisition by Kellogg's[edit | edit source]

In 1968, the Kellogg Company acquired the Eggo brand from the Dorsa family. Under Kellogg's ownership, Eggo waffles continued to grow in popularity, and the brand expanded to include a variety of flavors and products.

Frank Dorsa's invention of the frozen waffle revolutionized the breakfast food industry. His innovative approach to food production and his entrepreneurial spirit left a lasting impact on American cuisine. Today, Eggo waffles remain a popular breakfast choice for many families.
