Frieda Fromm-Reichmann

Frieda Fromm-Reichmann (October 23, 1889 – April 28, 1957) was a German psychiatrist and contemporary of Sigmund Freud who immigrated to America during World War II. She is recognized as a pioneer in the use of psychoanalysis for the treatment of schizophrenia.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Fromm-Reichmann was born in Karlsruhe, Germany. She studied medicine at the University of Königsberg and later specialized in psychiatry. She was influenced by the work of Sigmund Freud and became a member of the International Psychoanalytical Association.

Career[edit | edit source]

In 1935, Fromm-Reichmann fled Nazi Germany and immigrated to the United States. She worked at the Chestnut Lodge in Rockville, Maryland, where she developed her innovative approach to treating schizophrenia through intensive psychotherapy.

Fromm-Reichmann made significant contributions to the field of psychiatry, particularly in the treatment of schizophrenia.
