Frizzled-7

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Frizzled-7[edit | edit source]

Frizzled-7 is a member of the Frizzled family of G protein-coupled receptors that are involved in the Wnt signaling pathway. This receptor is encoded by the FZD7 gene in humans.

Function[edit | edit source]

Frizzled-7 plays a crucial role in the Wnt signaling pathway, which is important for various developmental processes, including cell proliferation, differentiation, and migration. The Wnt pathway is also implicated in the regulation of stem cell maintenance and cancer development.

Structure[edit | edit source]

Frizzled-7, like other Frizzled receptors, has a distinct structure characterized by a seven-transmembrane domain typical of G protein-coupled receptors. It also contains a cysteine-rich domain (CRD) that is essential for binding to Wnt proteins.

Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]

Alterations in the expression of Frizzled-7 have been associated with several types of cancer, including colorectal cancer, gastric cancer, and breast cancer. Overexpression of Frizzled-7 can lead to aberrant activation of the Wnt signaling pathway, contributing to tumorigenesis.

Research[edit | edit source]

Research into Frizzled-7 is ongoing, with studies focusing on its role in cancer and potential as a therapeutic target. Inhibitors of Frizzled-7 are being explored as possible treatments for cancers that exhibit dysregulated Wnt signaling.
