Future 50 Foods report

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Future 50 Foods report is a comprehensive document that was published with the aim of promoting biodiversity in our diets and reducing the environmental impact of our food supply. The report was compiled by Knorr, the food brand, in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Dr. Adam Drewnowski, a leading expert in public health at the University of Washington.

The report identifies 50 plant-based foods that could help meet global food demands, improve nutrition and reduce the environmental impact of food production. These foods were selected based on their high nutritional value, relative environmental impact, flavor, accessibility, acceptability and affordability.

Overview[edit | edit source]

The Future 50 Foods report is divided into several sections, each focusing on a different aspect of the food system. The first section provides an overview of the current state of the global food system, highlighting the challenges of feeding a growing population in a sustainable way. The second section presents the 50 foods identified as having the potential to contribute to a more sustainable and nutritious food system. These foods are grouped into 11 categories: algae, beans and pulses, cacti, cereals and grains, fruits, fungi, nuts and seeds, root vegetables, sprouts, tubers, and vegetables.

Each food is presented with a detailed profile, including its nutritional value, environmental impact, and potential uses in the kitchen. The report also includes recommendations for incorporating these foods into our diets and promoting their production and consumption on a larger scale.

Impact[edit | edit source]

The Future 50 Foods report has been widely recognized as a valuable resource for policymakers, food industry professionals, and consumers alike. It provides a roadmap for diversifying our diets and our agricultural systems, with the potential to improve public health, protect biodiversity, and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
