GTx-758

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellnesspedia

GTx-758 (also known as Capesaris) is an estrogen receptor agonist that is under development by GTx for the treatment of prostate cancer. It is a selective estrogen receptor alpha agonist.

Mechanism of action[edit | edit source]

GTx-758 works by increasing the levels of sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) in the body, which in turn reduces the amount of free, active testosterone available to stimulate the growth of prostate cancer cells. It also directly inhibits the growth of prostate cancer cells by binding to estrogen receptors.

Clinical trials[edit | edit source]

GTx-758 has been studied in phase II clinical trials for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer. The results of these trials have shown that GTx-758 can significantly reduce testosterone levels in men with prostate cancer, and it has a favorable safety profile.

Side effects[edit | edit source]

The most common side effects of GTx-758 include hot flashes, gynecomastia, and venous thromboembolism. These side effects are generally mild and manageable.
