Gangwon Province (강원도, 江原道) is a province located in the northeastern part of South Korea. It is known for its natural beauty, including mountains, forests, and coastal areas. The province is bordered by the East Sea to the east, Gyeonggi Province to the west, North Korea to the north, and Chungcheongbuk-do and Gyeongsangbuk-do to the south.

Gangwon Province has a rich history that dates back to the Three Kingdoms of Korea period. It was originally part of the Goguryeo kingdom. After the unification of the Korean Peninsula by the Silla kingdom, the area became known as "Myeongju". During the Joseon Dynasty, the province was named "Gangwon" after the cities of Gangneung and Wonju.

The province is characterized by its mountainous terrain, with the Taebaek Mountains running through the region. The highest peak in the province is Seoraksan, which is part of the Seoraksan National Park. The park is a popular destination for hiking and enjoying the natural scenery.
