Georgia

Georgia is a country located at the intersection of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. It is bordered by the Black Sea to the west, Russia to the north, Turkey and Armenia to the south, and Azerbaijan to the southeast. The capital and largest city is Tbilisi.

History[edit | edit source]

The history of Georgia dates back to ancient times. The area was inhabited by early humans and later became the site of the ancient kingdoms of Colchis and Iberia. Georgia was one of the first countries to adopt Christianity as the state religion in the early 4th century. During the medieval period, Georgia experienced a golden age of political and cultural achievements under the reign of David IV and Queen Tamar. However, the country faced numerous invasions by the Mongols, Ottomans, and Persians. In the 19th century, Georgia was annexed by the Russian Empire. Following a brief period of independence after the Russian Revolution, Georgia was incorporated into the Soviet Union in 1922. It regained independence in 1991 following the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
