Glen Breton Rare
Glen Breton Rare is a single malt whisky produced by the Glenora Distillers, located in Nova Scotia, Canada. It is notable for being one of the few single malt whiskies produced outside of Scotland and has garnered international attention and acclaim.
History[edit | edit source]
Glenora Distillers was founded in 1989 by Bruce Jardine. The distillery is situated in the picturesque region of Cape Breton Island, which is known for its Scottish heritage. The name "Glen Breton" is derived from the combination of "Glen," a term commonly used in Scottish whisky names, and "Breton," referring to Cape Breton Island.
Production[edit | edit source]
Glen Breton Rare is crafted using traditional Scottish methods. The whisky is made from 100% malted barley and is aged in oak barrels. The water used in the production process is sourced from MacLellan's Brook, which is known for its purity. The aging process takes place in a climate that is similar to that of Scotland, which contributes to the unique characteristics of the whisky.
Legal Dispute[edit | edit source]
Glen Breton Rare was involved in a legal dispute with the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) over the use of the term "Glen" in its name. The SWA argued that the use of "Glen" could mislead consumers into thinking that the whisky was produced in Scotland. The case was eventually resolved in favor of Glenora Distillers, allowing them to continue using the name Glen Breton Rare.
Awards and Recognition[edit | edit source]
Glen Breton Rare has received several awards and accolades over the years. It has been praised for its smooth and complex flavor profile, which includes notes of fruit, vanilla, and oak. The whisky has been recognized in various international competitions, further establishing its reputation in the global whisky market.
