Green County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 36,957. Its county seat is Monroe. The county was created in 1837 and named for the abundance of green foliage in the area.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 585 square miles (1,520 km²), of which 584 square miles (1,510 km²) is land and 1.2 square miles (3.1 km²) (0.2%) is water.

As of the 2020 census, there were 36,957 people, 15,000 households, and 10,000 families residing in the county. The population density was 63 people per square mile (24/km²). There were 15,500 housing units at an average density of 27 per square mile (10/km²).

Green County is known for its agricultural production, particularly dairy farming. The county is also famous for its cheese production, with several local cheese factories and the annual Green County Cheese Days festival held in Monroe.

The county is served by several school districts, including the Monroe School District, Brodhead School District, and New Glarus School District. Higher education is available at nearby institutions such as University of Wisconsin–Madison and Blackhawk Technical College.

Major highways in Green County include U.S. Highway 11, Wisconsin Highway 69, and Wisconsin Highway 81. The county is also served by the Monroe Municipal Airport.
