Griotte-Chambertin
[[File:Griotte-Chambertin]|thumb|Griotte-Chambertin]]] Griotte-Chambertin is a Grand Cru vineyard and Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) for red wine in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy, France. It is located within the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin in the Côte-d'Or département. The vineyard is one of the nine Grand Cru vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin, known collectively as the Chambertin vineyards.
History[edit | edit source]
The history of Griotte-Chambertin dates back to the Middle Ages, when the land was cultivated by Cistercian monks. The vineyard has long been recognized for its exceptional terroir and the quality of its wines.
Terroir[edit | edit source]
The terroir of Griotte-Chambertin is characterized by its limestone and clay soils, which contribute to the complexity and depth of the wines produced here. The vineyard is situated on a gentle slope with an ideal microclimate that allows for optimal ripening of the Pinot Noir grapes.
Wine Characteristics[edit | edit source]
Griotte-Chambertin wines are known for their elegance, finesse, and aromatic complexity. They typically exhibit flavors of red and black fruits, such as cherry, raspberry, and blackberry, along with earthy and spicy notes. The wines have a good balance of acidity and tannins, which allows them to age gracefully over many years.
Production[edit | edit source]
The vineyard area of Griotte-Chambertin is relatively small, covering approximately 2.7 hectares. Due to its limited size and the high quality of the wines, Griotte-Chambertin is one of the most sought-after and expensive wines in Burgundy.
Notable Producers[edit | edit source]
Several renowned producers make wine from the Griotte-Chambertin vineyard, including Domaine Ponsot, Domaine Joseph Drouhin, and Domaine Armand Rousseau. These producers are known for their meticulous vineyard management and winemaking techniques, which ensure the highest quality of wine.
