Hal Huggins

Hal Huggins was a prominent dentist, author, and advocate for holistic dentistry. He was known for his controversial views on the use of amalgam fillings and the potential health risks they pose.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Huggins was born in America. He received his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the University of Nebraska and later earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry.

Career[edit | edit source]

Huggins started his career as a traditional dentist. However, after observing a correlation between amalgam fillings and health problems in his patients, he began to advocate for the removal of these fillings. He believed that the mercury used in amalgam fillings could lead to various health issues, including autoimmune diseases, neurological disorders, and chronic illnesses.

Huggins developed a protocol for the safe removal of amalgam fillings, which included the use of specific supplements and dietary changes to support the body's detoxification process. This protocol is now widely used in holistic dentistry.

Controversy[edit | edit source]

Huggins' views on amalgam fillings were controversial within the dental community. The American Dental Association (ADA) and other professional organizations have maintained that amalgam fillings are safe. Huggins' dental license was revoked in 1986 by the Colorado State Board of Dental Examiners for malpractice, including the use of unscientific diagnostic procedures.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Despite the controversy, Huggins' work has had a significant impact on the field of holistic dentistry. His protocols for safe amalgam removal are still used today, and his views on the potential health risks of amalgam fillings have led to increased research into the subject.

Publications[edit | edit source]

Huggins authored several books on holistic dentistry, including It's All in Your Head: The Link Between Mercury Amalgams and Illness and Uninformed Consent : The Hidden Dangers in Dental Care.
