Halle (Saale) is the largest city in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It is situated on the river Saale, which gives the city its full name, Halle an der Saale.

Halle was first mentioned in the 9th century and became a major center of trade in the 13th century with the granting of certain rights by Otto IV. The city's historical importance is reflected in its large number of architectural and cultural landmarks, including the Market Church and the Opera House.

Halle is located in the southern part of Saxony-Anhalt, near the cities of Leipzig and Dessau. The city is divided into several districts, each with its unique character and history. The river Saale flows through the city, providing a natural boundary for some of these districts.
