Harrison Allen

Harrison Allen (1841-1897) was a prominent American physician and anatomist who made significant contributions to the field of medicine and anatomy. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1861.

Harrison Allen was born on April 17, 1841, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he received his B.A. in 1860 and his M.D. in 1861.

After graduating, Allen served as a surgeon in the Union Army during the American Civil War. After the war, he returned to the University of Pennsylvania as a professor of comparative anatomy and physiology, where he remained until 1889. He also served as the president of the American Philosophical Society from 1882 to 1897.

Allen's research focused on the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system, and he made significant contributions to the understanding of respiration. He also made important discoveries in the field of neuroanatomy, particularly in relation to the brain and nervous system.
