Hart County, Georgia is a county located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 26,205. The county seat is Hartwell, which is known for its historic homes and vibrant downtown area. Hart County was created on December 7, 1853, from parts of Elbert and Franklin counties. It is named after Nancy Hart, a heroine of the American Revolutionary War known for her dedicated service and acts of espionage against the British. Hart County is unique in that it is the only county in Georgia named after a woman.

Hart County is part of the Piedmont region of Georgia, characterized by rolling hills and fertile soil. It is bordered by the state of South Carolina to the east, with the Savannah River forming the natural boundary. The county encompasses a total area of 256 square miles, of which 232 square miles is land and 24 square miles is water.
