Hawassa University is a comprehensive public university located in Hawassa, Ethiopia. Established in 1999 through the merger of several institutions, it has grown to become one of the country's leading centers for higher education and research. The university plays a crucial role in the educational, cultural, and economic development of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) and Ethiopia at large.

Hawassa University was officially inaugurated on April 25, 2000.
