- Haworth was incorporated as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 24, 1904, from portions of Dumont and Harrington Township. The borough was named for Haworth, England, in honor of the ancestral home of the area's early settlers.

- Haworth is located in the northeastern part of New Jersey, approximately 30 miles from New York City. The borough is bordered by the towns of Dumont, Demarest, and Closter.
