Hepatoma-derived growth factor
Hepatoma-derived growth factor (HDGF) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the HDGF gene. It is a member of the hepatoma-derived growth factor family and plays a significant role in cell growth, cell proliferation, and angiogenesis.
Function[edit | edit source]
HDGF is a heparin-binding growth factor that is expressed in various cell types and plays a role in cell growth, cell proliferation, and angiogenesis. It is secreted by fibroblasts and acts as a mitogen for a wide range of cell types. HDGF is involved in the regulation of cell cycle progression and cell survival.
Clinical significance[edit | edit source]
HDGF has been implicated in a variety of diseases, including cancer. It is overexpressed in many types of cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, and breast cancer. Overexpression of HDGF in cancer cells promotes cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and metastasis, making it a potential target for cancer therapy.
Research[edit | edit source]
Research into HDGF has focused on its role in cancer development and progression, as well as its potential as a therapeutic target. Studies have shown that inhibiting HDGF expression can suppress tumor growth and metastasis, suggesting that HDGF could be a promising target for cancer therapy.
