Hettinger County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Dakota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 2,639. Its county seat is Mott. The county was created from Stark County in 1883 and organized in 1907. It was named for Mathias Hettinger, a banker from Mandan, who had interests in large tracts of land in the western part of the state.

Hettinger County is located in the southwestern part of North Dakota, covering a total area of 1,134 square miles. It is bordered by Stark County to the north, Grant County to the east, Adams County to the south, and Slope County to the west.
