Hexestrol dicaprylate is described as a long-acting, depot form of hexestrol that is given by injection and has a duration of action of up to one month.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
Hexestrol dicaprylate is a synthetic, nonsteroidal estrogen. It is an ester of hexestrol, which is a synthetic estrogen itself. The compound is more potent as an estrogen in comparison to hexestrol. It is described as a long-acting, depot form of hexestrol that is given by injection and has a duration of action of up to one month.
Chemistry[edit | edit source]
Hexestrol dicaprylate, also known as hexestrol dipropionate, is a synthetic nonsteroidal estrogen and hence is an agonist of the estrogen receptor, the biological target of estrogens like estradiol. It is an estrogen ester; specifically, it is the C3,C17β dicaprylate ester of hexestrol.
History[edit | edit source]
Hexestrol dicaprylate was never marketed. It is one of a few hexestrol esters, the others being hexestrol diacetate and hexestrol dipropionate, which were developed as long-acting, injectable forms of hexestrol but were never introduced for medical use.
