Horst Fischer

Horst Fischer (31 December 1912 – 8 July 1966) was a German SS officer and a physician who served in the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II. He was later convicted of war crimes and executed.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Horst Fischer was born on 31 December 1912 in Dresden, Germany. He studied medicine and became a licensed physician. Fischer joined the Nazi Party and the SS in the 1930s, aligning himself with the ideologies of the regime.

World War II[edit | edit source]

During World War II, Fischer was assigned to the Auschwitz concentration camp as a camp physician. In this role, he was involved in the selection process of prisoners, determining who would be sent to the gas chambers and who would be subjected to forced labor. His actions contributed to the atrocities committed during the Holocaust.

Post-War Period and Trial[edit | edit source]

After the war, Fischer managed to evade capture for several years. However, he was eventually apprehended and brought to trial. In 1966, he was tried for his involvement in the mass murders at Auschwitz. Fischer was found guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity. He was sentenced to death and executed on 8 July 1966.
