Hugo Rühle

Hugo Rühle (1824–1888) was a prominent German physician known for his contributions to internal medicine and his role as a professor at the University of Bonn. His work in the field of pulmonology and his research on tuberculosis were particularly influential during his time.

Hugo Rühle was born on March 13, 1824, in Breslau, which was then part of the Kingdom of Prussia. He pursued his medical studies at the University of Breslau and later at the University of Berlin, where he was influenced by leading medical figures of the time.

Rühle began his medical career as an assistant at the Charité hospital in Berlin, where he gained valuable experience in clinical medicine. In 1853, he was appointed as a professor of medicine at the University of Bonn, a position he held until his death in 1888.
