Hyalinizing trabecular adenoma

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Hyalinizing trabecular adenoma (HTA) is a benign tumor of the thyroid gland. It is a rare tumor and is characterized by a proliferation of spindle-shaped cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm, arranged in a hyalinized trabecular pattern. The tumor usually presents as a solitary nodule in the thyroid gland and is often asymptomatic. It can be difficult to differentiate from other thyroid tumors on imaging and histological examination, therefore a definitive diagnosis is made through surgical excision and examination of the tissue.
